The stars of world poker descended on London, last week, for the PartyPoker Premier League III. JC Tran’s first visit to the Premier League proved to be a worthwhile one as the American star was victorious in Sunday’s final.

The player list for the Premier League III read like a ‘who’s who’ of world poker. The likes of Tony G, WSOP champion Peter Eastgate, Victoria Coren, Roland de Wolfe and Internet sensation Tom Dwan stumped up a $75,000 buy-in to take part in this unique, league format, poker tournament.

Tony G was in red hot form and looked certain go to deep in this event following the conclusion of round 1. The Australian-Lithuanian bad boy of poker cruised his way into the final as some cited his embarrassing final table error in Premier League II as the reason for his faultless play and 100% focus this time around.

It wasn’t to be for Guoga, though, as US professional JC Tran went on to dominate the final table. Tran looked strong throughout and, despite being behind Guoga during the heads-up stages, called upon all his experience to overcome his opponent.

As the heads up stage began Tony G held 1,150,000 chips to Tran’s 780,000. Tran chipped away at Guoga and eventually gained a narrow chip lead. Then the crucial hand of the evening took place. With the blinds at 20,000/40,000, Tran limped in with 9c7d and Tony checked with Ks8d. The flop showed 5d7h6h. Guoga checked and Tran bet out only to be check-raised as the Australian moved all-in. Tran called but it was far from over! Guoga could hit any King, Nine or Four to reclaim what would be an enormous chip advantage. Fortunately for Tran the turn and river couldn’t improve Tony G’s hand and the American’s Premier League dreams were realised!
